voting for idiotic politicians is costly

Protest is a right. It's how care shows up. It's a love letter, not just to one's own community, but, ultimately, it's a love song for the self.

Ibon man may layang lumipad
Kulungin mo at umiiyak
Even birds are free to fly
Imprison them, and they cry
Personally, I'm saying "tama na" to corruption, this prison that seems to hold us back. And, yet, we remain. How much more progressive/caring/successful our community will be if we do away with corrupt governments.
And, it starts from within.
Here's the thing: politicians steal the community's money, so the community doesn't have money for infrastructure. No universal healthcare. No free education. No social safety net. Which means that when our friends and family, who live in the Philippines, get sick and need to buy medicines, or need to go to school, all of that cost comes out of pocket. But, if they're poor, they call for help from their families in the diaspora. Those who live in Canada and the US. And we give, in remittances. Filipino diaporic remittances keep the Philippine economy afloat. The result? I had to drop out of my dream Community Development master's program at U of T last year because I got denied OSAP funding. The province, apparently, doesn't recognize my remittances as an elligible expense.
My point is, voting for corrupt governments has a lot of effect on many people beyond the Philippine archipelago.
My request: ibasura na natin ang bulok na sistema, at kurakot na gobyerno. Para namang makaginhawa tayo.
Mayaman talaga ang Pilipinas. The problem is that we keep voting for idiotic politicians who know nothing about putting community first.
