Pls be kind, folks. Alok is right: this little blue dot of a world dazzles once we choose to heal more than hate. Life will still be challenging (we still need to pay bills, put food on the table, get disappointed when we don't get what we want, etc). Despite all of this (or maybe because of them), every breath is imbued with joy.
Many thanks to this book recommendation to read Double Melancholy, a Filipinx-Canadian memoir. Part of me grieves for the young Jose who didn't have these kinds of books to read when I was younger, but also feel comforted and excited that it was published in the time that it came out.
Quote from Double Melancholy: Art, Beauty and the Making of a Brown Queer Man...
"I fully subscribe to the idea that great art (like great sex, like non-divisive, non-coercive forms of religion and spirituality) is a means to the release and letting-go of self. But, to paraphrase the most grounded and socially engaged Buddhist teachers, one must have a self before one can let go of it."
The Future is Filipinx
